When young mum Rhiannon Abshoff was diagnosed with breast cancer, she truly appreciated the support provided by The Kinghorn Cancer Centre’s wellness team.
During her treatment at St Vincent’s, she was cared for by Dr Kuan-Chi Wang and A/Prof Rachel Dear. She shared that she received vouchers from the Centre that helped ease financial pressures during an overwhelming time in her life:
“The care provided was truly essential in helping me manage my treatment. I decided to pay it forward by raising money so other patients can access vouchers too. Being able to do that now feels incredibly full circle and means other patients will have access to the same support that once carried me through.”
Rhiannon turned her experience into art to support St Vincent’s by staging a powerful photography exhibition titled UNSAID, earlier this year, which centred on her journey through breast cancer treatment at St Vincent’s.
The exhibition has raised over $4,500 in donations for the Kinghorn Wellness Centre at St Vincent’s, with all funds directly supporting programs that help patients during and after treatment.
By sharing her journey, Rhiannon hopes UNSAID will give others insight and reassurance, while navigating their own breast cancer journey. We are very grateful to our community supporters who go to great lengths to raise funds for St Vincent’s and share their personal experiences in such meaningful ways to support others on similar journeys.
