Help us raise life-saving funds to upgrade medical imaging technology so we can continue to provide fast, accurate answers for life-saving patient care.
When you are facing a serious illness, waiting for answers can be one of the hardest parts.
For Australian Army Major, Hugo Toovey, fast and accurate diagnosis saved his life – twice.
At 21, Hugo found a small lump that led to a diagnosis of testicular cancer. Years later, just two months after receiving the five-year all-clear, ongoing bowel issues prompted him to see a doctor again. Diagnostic imaging revealed a second cancer diagnosis.
Acting quickly, alongside timely, accurate scans helped save his life. Today, Hugo is a devoted husband, father to young son Teddy, and a two-time cancer survivor.
“There were times when things weren’t clear and that’s the hardest part – the unknown. But when doctors can confidently say, ‘this is what’s happening, and this is what we’ll do,’ it makes all the difference.”
You can help more patients receive that same clarity.

St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney performs more than 110,000 scans each year. To continue delivering exceptional patient care, we urgently need to replace critical fluoroscopy equipment – advanced live X-ray technology that helps clinicians diagnose conditions, guide procedures and make faster, more informed treatment decisions in real time. With upgraded equipment, clinicians can:
“If you want the best doctors, they need the best equipment. Without that, things can be missed or it can take longer to get on the right treatment path.” – Hugo

Around 1 in 2 Australians will be affected by cancer in their lifetime. Your gift can help our doctors detect illness sooner and start treatment earlier, for patients like Hugo.
As a father, that means everything to him:
“My son was a huge part of my recovery, and I just wanted to get back to my family. I’ll be forever grateful to St Vincent’s for the care I received.”
