Twenty-six post graduate nurses recently graduated across specialties ranging from Cardiothoracic and Heart Lung Transplant and Interventional Cardiology to Intensive Care, Mental Health, Perioperative Care, Anaesthetics and Recovery, Correctional Health and Palliative Care, showing how investment in nursing growth strengthens care for every St Vincent’s patient.
Through this program, nurses build advanced clinical skills and grow in confidence, preparing them for senior leadership roles. They leave ready to make complex decisions and provide compassionate, person-centred care, keeping patients at the heart of everything they do, in line with the Sisters of Charity and St Vincent’s Health Australia’s mission of ‘better and fairer care always.’
The program also emphasises specialist skills. As Sherin Easo, Nurse Educator for Palliative Care, explains: “This graduate certificate demonstrates that palliative care is a core skill for all nurses. Seeing this program grow nationally, with nurses from across the St Vincent’s Health Australia network, has been truly inspiring.”

This year, several Nurse Educator positions originally made possible through philanthropic support, have been made permanent. Nurse education is vital in building expertise and maintaining the high standard of care patients and their families depend on.
The celebration also honoured the generous donors whose support makes advanced study for our nurses possible. By easing financial pressures for nurses balancing demanding clinical roles, they help develop skills and confidence, directly strengthening compassionate person-centred care.

The contribution of our donors to our Nursing Excellence programs is invaluable and helps ensure that we attract and retain the best nursing talent in a competitive recruitment environment for the best possible patient care.
