Support the Transplant Striders in the Bondi to Manly Ultramarathon
For the St Vincent’s heart transplant team, caring for patients is more than a profession. It is a commitment that extends far beyond the hospital walls.
On Saturday 24 October, four of our leading transplant specialists will take on the gruelling 80-kilometre Bondi to Manly Ultramarathon to raise much needed funds. Known as the Transplant Striders, the team is aiming to raise $20,000 to help the transplant program.
The team comprises transplant cardiothoracic surgeons Dr Emily Granger and Dr Mark Connellan, alongside transplant cardiologists Dr Sharon Chih and Dr Ricardo Deveza.
Every day, these doctors witness the challenges faced by patients and families confronting serious heart disease. They also see the extraordinary impact that advanced cardiac care and innovative technology can have, helping critically ill patients survive, recover and spend more precious time with their loved ones.
Inspired by the resilience of the patients they care for, the team has set themselves an endurance challenge of their own. Training for an ultramarathon while balancing demanding clinical schedules has required dedication, sacrifice and teamwork. Yet every kilometre completed brings them closer to improving outcomes for future patients.
As the Transplant Striders make their way around Sydney Harbour this October, they are asking our community to get behind their efforts and help strengthen St Vincent’s transplant services.
