Today Medical Imaging and Radiology are some of the most powerful technologies in modern healthcare.
Today Medical Imaging utilises some of the most powerful technologies in modern healthcare.
Medical Imaging provides essential diagnostic and treatment services for almost all areas of St Vincent’s Hospital including emergency stroke intervention, neurology, heart and lung and emergency trauma.
- St Vincent’s Hospital Medical Imaging Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Performing more than 110,000 scans each year.
- The number of scans performed in Australia has doubled over the last 20 years, and demand for Medical Imaging service is projected to continue to grow.
- To meet this demand, St Vincent’s Hospital is upgrading and renewing its Medical Imaging technology, at a total cost of $22 million over the next three years.
We need urgent investment in two next generation Siemens MRI units as our current technology reaches end of life this year. This new technology will support growing demand, produce quicker and more accurate images for our doctors, and support cutting-edge research.
St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Medical Imaging department:
- Provides bulk-billed imaging services giving the whole community access to the highest level of care regardless of means.
- Embraces complex cases often denied care in private radiology practices settings including people living with implantable devices such as cochlear implants and pacemakers.
- Provide more than 165 teaching sessions per year. Delivers public health screening services including breast cancer screening.
The latest technology with artificial intelligence tools will:
- Reduce scan times – crucial in emergency situations
- Support 499 world-leading clinical trials annually
- Produce clearer, more accurate images Increase patient flow for the whole hospital
- Reduce the need to repeat scans
- Detect cancers, strokes, Alzheimer’s, heart disease and fractures earlier
- Automate routine or labor-intensive tasks Reduce radiation exposure
- Expand non-invasive imaging-guided therapies like MRgFUS
“No technology can replace the skill or compassion of our clinicians. But these innovations will ensure patients get the care they need, when they need it most, increase our imaging accuracy and capacity and improve patient flow.” Anna McFadgen, CEO, St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney
