We are proud to celebrate the opening of the St Vincent’s NELUNE Men’s Health Centre at The Kinghorn Cancer Centre — a transformative new facility that will revolutionise prostate cancer care at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and beyond.
The first of its kind in NSW, the centre is a joint funding initiative from the Vincent’s Curran Foundation and The NELUNE Foundation, whose visionary philanthropic support has made it possible.
The centre aims to revolutionise prostate cancer care through a comprehensive, patient-centred and holistic approach that integrates medical treatment with essential support services.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, with over 7,000 new cases in NSW each year. Despite the common belief that it’s a disease men live with, not die from, prostate cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death in Australian men.
At St Vincent’s, men receiving care at the Public Hospital often face more challenges compared to those at the Private Hospital. Navigating the complex treatment options and accessing the right services can be overwhelming, especially for those with limited financial resources.
In 2019, St Vincent’s launched the Men’s Health Project, an initiative to centralise all aspects of prostate cancer care, ensuring that every patient, regardless of their financial background, has equal access to world-class treatments.
The new NELUNE Men’s Health Centre takes this further by bringing together a full range of services, including exercise physiology, physiotherapy, dietetics, social work, and psycho-sexual health support, in one place. A dedicated nurse will guide patients through their journey, helping them access all the care and services they need.
Thanks to a generous bequest from the late Alex Stephens, the centre will also offer robotic surgery to public hospital patients, a major advancement in prostate cancer treatment previously unavailable to many.
A heartfelt thank you to Nelune Rajapakse AM, Anna Guillan AM and the NELUNE Foundation, as well as the Hon Ryan Park, Richard Haddock AO, Linda Patat, Fr William Chow, and Brendan Kerrin for being part of the opening ceremony.
This is just the beginning of a brighter future for men’s health, and we are so proud to be part of this journey.
