Vale Isaac Wakil AO

We pay tribute to Isaac Wakil AO and his late wife Susan Wakil AO, visionary supporters of St Vincent’s Hospitals. Their generosity helped improve the care and experience of patients and families.

Isaac’s life was one of extraordinary resilience, generosity and purpose. After fleeing persecution in Baghdad as a young refugee, he and his beloved wife Susan built a successful business and, together, became among Australia’s most respected philanthropists. Isaac’s story, from refugee to business leader and leading philanthropist, is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact that kindness, vision and generosity can have on the lives of others.

Through the Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation, their visionary generosity transformed lives across healthcare, medical research, education and the arts. Their legacy of support and close connection to the Sisters of Charity and St Vincent’s will always be remembered through the Susan Wakil AO Healing Garden at the front entrance of St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney, which Isaac chose to name in his beloved wife’s honour.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Isaac’s family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We are honoured to have been part of his remarkable journey and will remember him with deep gratitude and respect.
