Steven Harker AM will be remembered at St Vincent’s as a visionary philanthropist, respected business leader and passionate advocate whose generosity and determination helped shape the future of lung transplant research and patient care.
Following his own double lung transplant at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, Steve developed a profound connection to St Vincent’s and an unwavering commitment to supporting the clinicians, researchers and patients within our Heart Lung Transplant Unit. Alongside his wife Linda, he established the Lungs For The Future Program, creating a lasting philanthropic legacy that will continue to advance innovation, research and hope for patients for generations to come.
Steve was deeply grateful for the care he received at St Vincent’s and transformed that gratitude into meaningful action. He became a wonderful advocate for the hospital and for the importance of transplantation research, always driven by a desire to help others facing serious illness.

He will be remembered not only for his remarkable professional achievements and leadership within the Australian business community, but also for his warmth, generosity of spirit and genuine compassion for others.
Steve’s legacy will always be honoured at St Vincent’s in gratitude for his vision, generosity and enduring belief in the power of medical discovery to change lives.
“For us philanthropy has always been about personal connection and a desire to give back and make a difference. We want to support things where we feel that personal connection and can be involved beyond just writing a cheque.”
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Steve’s wife Linda, daughters Rachel and Clare, family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
