2020 International Year of the Nurse and Midwife
The COVID-19 response has demonstrated how our nurses really are at the forefront of our health system, managing complex health care needs, adopting new technologies and advancing new models of care. They are also our communicators and companions in a crisis and our advocates for holistic person-centred care.
With International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, it is time to support these incredible men and women on the frontline and give them the recognition, investment and influence needed to build a world-class health service into the future.
Our goal is to equip our nurses with the clinical and leadership skills to respond to the ever-changing and increasing complex care needs of our population. This includes clinical scholarships; nurse leadership programs to transition our best and brightest into strategic roles across our health service; and nurse-led research and change management to drive positive modifications in how we treat patients across our health care system.
The health challenges of the future cannot be overcome without a strong nursing workforce.
