Safe Haven for Community at Green Park

In December 2020, the Trustees of St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Limited purchased the Green Park Hotel on the edge of the St Vincent’s Healthcare Precinct to create a healthcare hub focused on delivering mental health and virtual health programs.

One of the project’s first priorities is to establish the St Vincent’s Urban Health Hub and Safe Haven Café, which will cater specifically to people seeking mental health support. St Vincent’s has been delivering mental health care to the community since 1868 when the Sisters of Charity opened one of Australia’s first dedicated facilities. The new Urban Health Hub and Safe Haven Café will continue this legacy by providing respectful and compassionate service in a safe environment for adults experiencing personal difficulties or seeking social connection. The Safe Haven Café is a part of the Towards Zero Suicide Initiative funded by the NSW Government.

Green Park Hotel has long held a special place in the hearts of Darlinghurst locals

Both projects were identified as priorities within the current St Vincent’s Mental Health Strategy and are key to providing a more holistic approach to supporting patients with mental health needs.

The Green Park Hotel site has long held a special place in the hearts of many Darlinghurst locals, and St Vincent’s ownership will ensure the building’s heritage is preserved and used in support of the community. We are grateful to the assistance of Boffa Robertson, Coco Republic, Payce Foundation and Vittoria Coffee who have all pledged their assistance to support this important community health project.
