The St Vincent’s Private Hospital Sydney officially opened the first stage of the major $140 million redevelopment on Thursday, 1 November 2018. Opened by the Chair of Trustees of the Mary Aikenhead Ministries, Dr Maria Theresa Ho, Sisters of Charity of Australia Congregational Leader, Sr Clare Nolan, and Chair of St Vincent’s Health Australia, Paul Robertson AO, the opening marked the beginning of the hospital’s transformation.
Named in honour of Sisters of Charity visionary, Sr Francis McGuigan, who oversaw considerable growth to the Sister’s ministry in health, education and outreach between 1882 and 1920, the new 13-level Sr Francis McGuigan rsc Wing features more single bed patient rooms, new operating theatres, more surgical suites, a rehabilitation centre and new specialist suites.
The Opening also saw the unveiling of a new life-size portrait of benefactor and Patron of the Friends of St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, Mrs Roslyn Packer AC. The portrait, painted by 2001 Archibald Prize winner Nicholas Harding, was commissioned by the St Vincent Curran’s Foundation in recognition of Mrs Packers enduring philanthropic work with the Hospital.
